We can’t just stretch our body, we need to also reach out with our mind and spirit.
“What books should I read before starting yoga teacher training?” It’s probably the most common question I get. Here are a few books that will help you feel more prepared for the challenge ahead.

The 3 Essential Books you NEED to read before you take a YTT:
Light on Yoga by B.K.S. Iyengar
This book is basically a yoga teacher’s bible. It explains the 8-limbed path, it has a huge index of postures with pictures of a young Mr.Iyengar actually doing the poses, and, of course, it was written by one of the main founders of modern day yoga in the west. You will keep this book for life and use it as a reference book many times throughout your exploration into the world of yoga.
The Untethered Soul by Michael Singer
This book is a simple yet profound and life-altering exploration into the inner workings of your mind. I believe this book lays the foundation for an individual to begin a succesful meditation practice. It is also a tool for effective communication and helps you to see the world from a new and more realistic perspective.
Yoga Anatomy by Leslie Kaminoff
Often a pre-reading requirement for YTT, this book is the most well-recognized book on anatomy used for yoga teacher trainings. One of the best tools you will receive from this book is the detailed pictures of people in yoga postures from all different angles. This really helps to solidify the understanding of the body’s functions in each of the postures.
